As noted here in the past, the original Twitter Blue Check was reserved only for the elite and the self-important. You and I could not get a Blue Check.

In 2023, the Blue Check program of Twitter was changed to indicate “verified account” – that you are who you say you are, rather than being an entirely anonymous troll on social media.

The NY Times and the Washington Post are angry they have lost their free “verified checkmark” and their mark of alleged “expertise/authenticity”.

They truly believe they are more important, more elite, and more truthy than you or anyone else and they deserve to have the Blue Check stamp of approval. They absolutely will not pay to have a verified account.

The NYTimes and WaPo are making themselves look silly (or sillier?)

But hey, it’s okay, I self-identify as a Blue Checked account so why can’t they?
