Media: Everything must be spun into negativity

Media: Everything must be spun into negativity

SpaceX did its 2nd test fight of Starship yesterday. The launch went through the mission’s goal of successfully performing a “hot stage”, with the booster and first stage separation. A few minutes later, the first stage self detonated.

The company has said in the past that they expect there will be hundreds of test launches before any astronauts are on board. This was test launch #2 of those hundreds.

This story – Another ‘Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly’ for Elon Musk – starts out okay but turns it into Elon Musk bashing about the launch failure and that an “investigation” found”hundreds of unreported injuries at SpaceX”. The story is written by someone with a BA in English, and the Reuters “investigation” was conducted by someone with a BA in political science. Neither has experience in designing and building complex technical systems. Thus everything is twisted into “human interest” and alleged controversy because that is what story tellers understand.

This story has a lot that is done right but the quick turn into negativity seems wrong. In the news, everything is presented as “New cancer drug saves children’s lives BUT experts worry it won’t be available to children in South America”. All good news must be spun into bad news. Always. Every success is always paired with “but…” and something bad.

And we wonder why Gen Z is filled with anxiety, depression and doubt, and believe the human race will go extinct in as little as ten years? Media story tellers have brainwashed everyone into only seeing negativity in the world around us – even though there is enormous amounts of good news, everywhere. BUT even good news is awful! (See how that works?)
