Founder Henry Blodget was banned from working in the securities industry, for life, after reaching a settlement over allegations of fraud. So he reverted to journalism and founded Business Insider. Like many journalists, he came from the elite, attended a private academy school, then a private elite university (Yale, BA in history), then worked in Japan, then in journalism back in the U.S., before working for Merrill Lynch.
