Censorship: We should ban photos of Lahaina?

It made him emotional. “It’s highly disrespectful,” he said. “I’m from Lahaina, and I understand this travesty has happened, but this is not for photos or entertainment … or to show your family back home that you were here.”

When the plane landed, he asked the couple to delete the photos off their phone – they hesitated at first.

They took photos out the window of their airliner as the plane departed Maui. They were not standing among the ruins taking selfie photos.

Would it be okay to sketch a drawing or would that be disrespectful?

  • Should the recording of historical events be banned because someone else does not like it?
  • Should only “official” photographs be permitted at historical events?
  • What could possibly go wrong with allowing only “official” “government approved” historical records to be made?
