Climate: “Boiling seas part of the ClimateCrisis”

We’ve reached the ‘boiling seas’ part of the climate crisis (msn.com)

Off the coast of Florida, the water has hit 100ºF multiple times in last week, a temperature more suitable to hot tubs than the open sea. The unavoidable truth is that our oceans are warming faster than predicted, and it is beginning to feel like the hackneyed “frog in a slowly boiling pot” analogy for climate change is more apt than ever.

Practicing Factfulnessthe 100 deg temps were hit twice, briefly. Within 5-6 hours, the temperature was 9 degrees color. Within 2 days, the temperature was about 17 degrees cooler.

UPDATE: The temperatures measured were not a new record. The buoy is in a shallow tidal estuary, close to shore. It is not an ocean buoy. When the tide goes out, the very shallow water heats up. When the tide comes back in, the temperature quickly drops. The media lied to you about this event for the sole purpose of climate advocacy propaganda.

Explain:

  • Why were these temperatures hit briefly and but then sharply cooled afterwards?
  • Why did the two nearest buoys to this one not show temperatures this high?
  • If “our oceans are warming faster than predicted”, what does that say about the prediction accuracy of the models and the science?

A competent reporter would have asked these questions, but “competent” and “reporter” are two words that do not typically appear together. So instead, we get superlative, hysterical pejorative terminology like “boiling seas”.
