Censorship: Florida proposes mandatory registration of all bloggers who write about Governor or executive staff

Would require any blogger that ever writes about the Governor, executive staff or members of the Legislature to register with the government and report any income earned from the blog, on a monthly basis. Failure to file the monthly report would result in a fine of $25/day for each day the report is late.

Strait up government intimidation and censorship:

Florida Sen. Jason Brodeur (R-Lake Mary) wants bloggers who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and other members of the Florida executive cabinet or legislature to register with the state or face fines.

Brodeur’s proposal, Senate Bill 1316: Information Dissemination, would require any blogger writing about government officials to register with the Florida Office of Legislative Services or the Commission on Ethics.

Yes, it’s in the text of the bill – go down to line 138.

“Media” is apparently exempt such that the public (bloggers) are treated differently than paid media outlets.

This proposed bill is clearly unconstitutional and intended solely to intimidate members of the public from discussing public affairs in public online forums.
