Apple has privacy protection features in iOS – users need to give permission to release information to Facebook, for example:

WhatsApp users are being presented with something of a good news-bad news situation from the Facebook-owned chat app. A May 15 deadline to accept new privacy terms for WhatsApp is no longer going to be enforced. But users will eventually have to agree to the policy or slowly lose access to WhatsApp features.

Gradually, users will lose most WhatsApp features unless they agree to give Facebook access to their private information. The sole business of Facebook is developing dossiers on everyone who uses their service, and selling access to that information to advertisers.
