For a company built on “friends”, Facebook does not seem like a nice company:

• Facebook gave some companies full access to friends’ data, possibly without user consent, even after saying it was discontinuing this practice.
• Facebook saw the monetary value of friends’ data – and potentially selling users’ data directly, contrary to their statements that they just sell ads.
• Facebook wanted app developers to share any personal data they collected with Facebook.
• Facebook knew that having the Android app collect a record of all phone calls and all text messages was “controversial” and attempted to hide this from users.
• Facebook acquired Israel-based Onavo to develop what many considered to be spyware, to monitor which apps users had installed and when they used them. Facebook used this information to decide how to treat competitors – including killing off independent businesses by denying competitor’s access to critical data, or buying the competitor outright.
