Social media is no longer about posting your homemade videos on Youtube – now, most successful videos are from those with professional production quality.

Some one posts a TikTok video claiming “Baby boomers” never had to deal with inflation and had it easy finding jobs. She is factually and logically wrong, but the media turns this into a viral story, without noting the Tiktoker was wrong. The TikToker demonstrated she knows nothing of history without saying she knows nothing of history. It’s not a good look!
Trevor Jacob pretended to have an engine out failure in his light plane, jumping out by parachute as his plane gradually circled to impact into a hillside in a remote area. He then filmed his “harrowing” escape and hike out. He now admits the entire stunt was done for social media views and a promotional fee, and has pled guilty to charges. He may be sentenced to prison.
Youtube censors, probably sitting in a dense urban office building, censored a child’s video of her family’s farm in Canada, saying it presented a child engaged in dangerous activity.
Another social media poster, this one about Tesla, makes the rounds and most of it is misleading or wrong.
Two years ago, we were told by multiple “sides” that misinformation and disinformation on social media threw election results. Two years later, oddly, everyone is pretending the same misinformation and disinformation no longer is an issue – which is not very believable. The primary purpose of social media is to enable pundits to say things and make utter fools of themselves 🙂
I had never investigated the Blue Check program until moments ago. It is used to further our neo-feudalism of elite versus the plebians, ensuring that we know our place. Only the truly elite are supposed to get Blue Check marks. Blue Checks are a mark of techno-nobility.
Is “pretty privilege” real on social media? There are strong hints that it is a real issue. Some of it may come from how users select videos, which trains the “algorithm” in your likes, but others have said that the algorithms are intentionally designed to minimize views of videos with “non pretty” people.
