Social media has gone wild over a photo showing stacks of USPS mail boxes, as proof that the USPS is removing mailboxes to damage mail in votes this fall. Except the photo was taken at a company that takes in and repairs/refurbishes older USPS mailboxes for re-installation and use.
A fake social media propaganda meme has circulated saying a House Bill will require the mandatory separation of family members if one tests positive for Covid-19. The meme is fake but many people believed what they read or heard. Yesterday I witnessed this first hand as a middle aged woman broke down and cried, fearing the government would separate her from her elderly mother, for whom she is the primary care giver. This is the awful impact of garbage posts on social media.
Some politicians and popular memes assert that Scandinavian socialism is a model for the world. Except the Scandinavian governments themselves note they are not socialist countries. They are free market economies with high taxes supporting a large social safety net; they are not socialist countries. If the U.S. had the same tax structure as Denmark, then you would pay an income tax of 55.9% above $65,000/year in income.
This poster is a persuasive bit of propaganda. Most of it is not true. The parts that are true are that the Corn belt is a very productive region, and about 80 million acres (close to 100 million in the poster?) are growing corn. This item had been shared into my Facebook news feed.
An Internet meme says “11 teens die each day from texting while driving”. This claim, however, is false. In 2017, an average of 6 teens died each day from all vehicle accident causes. Cell phone usage falls within the distracted driving category. According to the government, distracted driving accounts for 9% of all crashes – therefore, cellphone usage is even less than this.
