Social: 58% of recent college grads are unemployed

Social: 58% of recent college grads are unemployed

This comes from a single source survey done by a KickResume – a job assistance firm: Kickresume | Best Online Resume & Cover Letter Builder

They surveyed a sample of their clients – who, not surprisingly, are looking for work. Thus, this is a biased sample survey and not a random sample of recent college graduates. As social media favors doomerism, this erroneous result is getting shared widely online.

Other surveys indicate 56% have found jobs, albeit, not necessarily in their desired field: As Skills Gap Grows, Job Market For College Grads Hits 5-Year Low. Says 33% – not 58% – are still seeking a job.

The survey was done in June and July – thus between 0 and 2 months after students had graduated. There are not yet any updates as to how this has progressed in the 2 months since then.

The current job market is considered the toughest in the past five years. However, the claim that 58% of recent graduates have no job is false.
