Happy 4th of July

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two in five Americans, 41%, say they are “extremely proud” to be American, the fifth consecutive year this reading has been in the 38% to 43% range. Another 26% of U.S. adults say they are “very proud,” also in line with recent years.

The 67% combined share of Americans who are extremely or very proud is consistent with readings since 2018 and among the lowest in Gallup’s trend, just four percentage points above the record low of 63% in 2020. From 2001 through 2017, no fewer than 75% of U.S. adults said they were extremely or very proud, including majorities who were extremely proud.

American Pride Remains Near Record Low (gallup.com)

But the pride has fallen a lot since 2004:

The media has done A LOT to make us think we should dislike and hate, our own country.

Over on my Travel blog, I have summarized about 250+ stories of Americans who moved abroad. See my Myth Part 1 and Myth Part 2 series.

There is a media meme of writing stories about Americans who moved to another country – they are all the same: “America is awful, so this person/couple/family” moved to country X where everything is perfect.

The stories are pretty bizarre when you step back and look at the whole bunch of them.

They are typically (but not always) young people, almost always women, who came from American wealth, attended private schools, elite private universities, and studied or lived abroad – basically benefiting from a wonderful and privileged life in the U.S. – and then leave the country saying America is awful, but life is wonderful in country X.

Many of the stories are about the writers’ own experience. They studied English Lit/Creative Writing/Art History and now work as writers and write about themselves.

Unfortunately, many humanities programs have become grievance studies – that’s the subject of the next scheduled post, coming soon. A lot of students pursue “grievance studies”, where they learn to whine and pursue the culture of perpetual outrage. Thus they have been indoctrinated into the blame America first meme – it’s probably all they know.

They should be educated sufficiently to see the hypocrisy of having wealthy parents send them to expensive ($200k-$350k educations) elite universities to earn degrees in fields that pay an average of $52k/year (BLS estimate for journalists) – and after partaking of the wealth and luxury that made that possible, they then trash the U.S. This is crazy – and illustrates a lack of thoughtful introspection.

These stories make little sense – but these rich kids crazily expound upon the U.S. as being an awful country and everywhere else is not merely better, but idyllic.

These stories seem to be popular – and further indoctrinate more of their target audience to viewing the U.S. as awful. Therefore, there is no surprise that more and more people are propagandized into viewing the U.S. as awful.

Happy 4th of July to the U.S.
