Media: Previously ACA cheerleaders, the media now sees the problems, sort of
The media that were cheerleaders for the ACA the past 15 years discovered that the ACA was not sustainable and is unaffordable without subsidies: Higher cost, worse coverage: Affordable Care Act enrollees say expiring subsidies will hit them hard | Consumer | centraloregondaily.com
They just noticed that ACA policies, which deliver little compared to group/corporate plans, cost older adults thousands of dollars per month, with $20k deductibles – similar to mid-aged couples with families.
The history of media coverage of the ACA has been incompetent reporting on this topic since 2010. Only in late 2025 did they acknowledge what we pointed out since day #1. Similarly, they continue to lie about pre-existing conditions exclusions – in fact, almost every one had pre-existing condition exclusion protection since the HIPPA Act of 1996 – it was only the small individual market that was missing this. Most people were already covered. Plus, more than half the states had enacted their own statewide protections.

Everything about the ACA was a lie – here’s the sales pitch goals from 2009-2010 when this was voted on by Congress. The only goal that was achieved was an expansion of Medicaid. Everything else failed.
- You can keep your health insurance – Grade F
- You can keep your doctors – Grade F
- Typical family will see a $2500 reduction in premiums – Grade F (“I will sign a universal health care bill into law by the end of my first term as president that will cover every American and cut the cost of a typical family’s premium by up to $2,500 a year.” “A Politics of Conscience,”, June 23, 2007.)
- Double-digit premium increases will be ended – Grade F
- Replaces “substandard” “junk policies” that will be replaced by quality, affordable health insurance – Grade F
- Expansion of Medicaid – Grade A
Even Democrats began acknowledging the failure of the ACA – in 2015! Just 2 years after the ACA went into effect! Democrats see skimpy insurance as the next health care issue | AP News
The Democratic Party’s Think Progress cheerleading group took the following 2013 article offline, which claimed that ObamaCare would end “rate shock” hysteria.
“Major New Study On Obamacare Premiums Should End The ‘Rate Shock’ Hysteria Once And For All” – http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/09/05/2575601/obamacare-premiums-expected-kaiser/
But the Internet Archive is forever: Major New Study On Obamacare Premiums Should End The ‘Rate Shock’ Hysteria Once And For All | ThinkProgress – Based on a Kaiser Family Foundation study – illustrating how stunningly bad their models and projections were.
It is amazing how effective the ObamaCare propaganda campaign was – persuading voters and media talking heads to believe things that were provably false. The media also failed us – as they bought all the lies and promulgated them to the public. 15+ years later, they are finally noticing – but do not acknowledge the role their own incompetence played in our reaching this point in 2025.
