Media: Why do people write stories like this?
She has a college degree and earns $2,500/month, and lives at her parent’s home to reduce expenditures.
By comparison, the monthly median pay of an Amazon warehouse worker is $3,200/month.
“A graduate of the University of Maryland in 2025, she has a degree in Journalism with a minor in General Business”
Not understanding why someone would want to publicize these choices; assuming this is a temporary internship that leads to something better. Then again, the US BLS says the average pay for someone with a journalism degree is just over US $50k/year as the market for reporters and freelance writers is saturated. That means supply exceeds demand and on the market price for writers is low.
Related odd media story: This is supposed to be a story to cause outrage – ICE now targeting legal residents in Chicago and fining them $130 for not having papers on person
But – turns out that legal immigrants are required by law to have their immigration identification accessible at all times. The individual cited, here, lives in government provided housing. As I have said on my Travel/Global blog, I do not support the unnecessary approach used by ICE and am strongly opposed to the use of racist selectors like skin color to interrogate people.
