Social media: Begging the Question Fallacy

When a business screws up and gets caught, in the next few days, the business or organization will tell us “This is not who we are” after demonstrating precisely who they are, by their actions. I have several posts on this topic

This is falls under the “Begging the Question Fallacy“:

Begging the question fallacy is an argument where the conclusion is assumed in one of the premises. It is an attempt to prove something is true while simultaneously taking that same thing for granted. This line of reasoning is fallacious because the assumption is not justified by any evidence.

Here is another example, this time from an individual, of “The Begging the Question Fallacy”. After saying something really bad, she then apologizes and says “this is not who I am”, after demonstrating that it was who she was a short time earlier. She provides no evidence that “this is not who I am” – it is an assertion.
