Very little “new” information came from last Friday’s news reports about Facebook and Cambridge Analytica. We already knew Facebook spies on everyone. We already knew Facebook used this data to create optimized propaganda messaging. The only new item was that Cambridge Analytica had once done work for people connected to Trump. That is the only new part of the story. So why did the news media ignore the Facebook surveillance and propaganda operations since 2005?
