How to evade Facebook and Google spying on you

How to evade Facebook and Google spying on you

  • Avoid using Facebook and Google services. However, this may not be practical. Further, Facebook has the ability to track people who have never had an account on their service.
  • To minimize their tracking ability, use a browser that supports “private browsing” or a “private window”. Use private browsing for all browsing as this automatically deletes any cookies and related data from your browser when you close the window. I only log in to FB using a privacy window or EPIC browser so that records kept by Facebook can not so easily be linked across access to other web sites.
  • Better: If using Firefox, install add ons such as Ghostery, Privacy Badger, and AdBlock Plus. These add ons work to detect and not load tracking components at various web sites.
  • Better: Install the EPIC Privacy Browser. EPIC’s is designed to avoid tracking operations. Funding for EPIC came from Graham Holdings, the family that formerly owned the Washington Post.  You can learn more about its background here. EPIC also provides web access via a secure proxy service to hide your IP address from web sites, as needed.
  • Do not use the Facebook apps on your mobile device. These apps are highly invasive and do collect data about your location.
  • Remove all unused “apps” that have access to your Facebook data.
  • Google’s Android logs all of your location data if Location services is on (which is necessary to use mapping apps, for example). You can, after the fact, log in to Google and delete their log of your travels. Go to the Google Dashboard.  You can also download all of the data that Google has collected about you.
  • All Android phones require that you have a Google GMail account to access Google services. Use that email account for your log in but do not use Google GMail for your email; use it only for logging into your Android connected services account. You’ll need this account to purchase or download free apps in the Play Store, for example. For email, use someone else’s email provider, such as Microsoft Outlook. Keep your email separate from your Google linked GMail account. Google’s computers effectively read every email sent or received on your GMail account. It is the machine equivalent of someone reading all of your emails and taking notes.

Facebook and Google have gone too far and are now the root cause of serious problems facing society today. Not just privacy but also including their friction-less propaganda platforms that enable anyone, including bots, to weaponize social media, to create political and societal instability, and to put everyone into a perpetual state of outrage, leading to serious psychological problems across society.
